CompuNet Clinical Laboratories increases uptime, security, and storage with move to The DataBank Cloud
Overview
Located in Ohio, CompuNet Clinical Laboratories is a full-service clinical laboratory testing facility serving healthcare professionals and hospitals in the region. The lab has test offerings of over 2,000 different diagnostic panels and performs more than seven million tests annually. CompuNet partners with DataBank to maintain user compliance documentation and enhance OnBase user experience.
Challenges
The CompuNet team hosted their entire content management system in an on-premise environment, holding data from the genesis of their organization on local servers and backups. Though the team knew they were increasing their risk of data breach and loss, they had not changed to hosting. This all changed on Dec. 23, 2016, when director of IT Amanda Clark received a call that CompuNet’s on-prem environment drives had failed.
The organization used multiple terabytes (TB) of storage for production and backups. At the time of failure, all of this data was unavailable and unusable, and the team was unsure if recovery was possible.
Downtime from the on-prem environment meant crucial workflows were interrupted, resulting in slow revenue cycle and increased manual processes. It took eight months to launch into the cloud from the time of the failure, with data processes slowed or stagnant during this time.
Because all of CompuNet’s on-premise environment drives had failed, including their backups, some of the organizational data was lost forever.
Results
The CompuNet team recovered as much data as possible via a third-party vendor. Next, they engaged DataBank and worked to move their OnBase hosting environment to the cloud in 2017. Again, in 2023, they migrated their OnBase to The DataBank Cloud, which was live in just four weeks and has hosted their OnBase since March 2023. CompuNet’s data is secure in The DataBank Cloud with requirements and security technology specific to their needs in their environment.
1. Since moving to The DataBank Cloud, CompuNet has had zero downtime, resulting in no interrupted business processes.
2. CompuNet eliminated its local database and enhances their storage needs without additional hardware costs.
Vision
CompuNet’s move to The DataBank Cloud has offered the team better peace of mind. They are currently working to enhance their process times through workflows, including billing and document retention. OnBase and The DataBank Cloud help CompuNet further its vision “To be the medical laboratory of choice.”
