Bill Smith, Senior OnBase Analyst/Specialist at the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, brings 18 years of expertise to his role. As the founding board president of the OnBase Solutions Expert Group (now OnBase Users), Bill’s deep-rooted passion for OnBase is evident. His commitment to the platform was famously highlighted when he wore a wizard costume at Community Live to demonstrate the “magic” of OnBase. Bill’s favorite features include the integration with core applications such as Outlook, SharePoint, and SAP, full-text search options, and PDF processing.

In his role, Bill handles OnBase technical support, including configuration, reporting, SQL, upgrades, and user assistance. Recently, he and his team have achieved significant milestones, including upgrading from OnBase V17 to Foundation 22.1, replacing E-Form SQL code with API calls to meet upgrade requirements, and providing users with an overview of the web-based Unity Client. Looking ahead, Bill plans to replace the outdated Reporting Services still configured with V17 and set up new workflow and workview processes.

Bill values his team’s dedication to supporting the application and guiding users, which he considers the best part of his work environment. He also observes a growing trend in AI-powered document intelligence, which is shaping the future of OnBase and the industry.
